Buy American: Are you In?

Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year in the USA.  In the 1960s, nine out of every 10 products Americans bought for the holidays were made in America. Today easily more than half of what we buy is foreign-made.

The average American will spend $704 on holiday gifts and goodies this year, totaling more than $465 billion, the National Retail Federation estimates. If that money was spent entirely on US made products it would create 4.6 million jobs. But it doesn’t even have to be that big. If each of us spent just $64 on American made goods during our holiday shopping, the result would be 200,000 new jobs.

So where will you spend your money this year?

If you’re looking for a toy train, the choice may come down to Indiana or China, both the same price.
The difference is that if you choose China’s train, you’re supporting China’s exploding middle class.

We know you might not be able to find American products for everything on your list — but remember, economists told us it’s just one thing. It takes just $64 of that $700 many of us spend to create jobs for Christmas.
