OCCUPY and DELIVER

Dec 8th, 2011 | By | Category: Occupy Denver, Opinion

My husband and I have recently participated in two active rallies, and one march during the two month anniversary of the movement.  We had seen the camps and decided then to make some home cooked meals for the kids, who at the time were safely guarding the tents as other members marched.  On Saturday, December third, we headed downtown to the encampment with big turkey size trays of warm organic home made entrees. We could not have been more timely. We got there at the end of Saturday’s rally, and amazingly came across another couple delivering two big trays of warm food as well.   The crowd of committed-die hard occupants began gathering around as the weather was beginning to take a turn towards freezing.  Together we served food to about 40 to 50 activist and felt privileged to do so. In addition, we distributed much needed supplies, and as part of this exchange, we began hearing their stories of commitment toward the cause.  We felt a profound sense of awe as our shared humanity filled this nobly occupied space .

My husband and I found the activists to be peaceful, knowledgeable, engaged, loving and in great need of support.  They were standing for equality, education, justice, community, precepts of the real 99% of us. As we spent more time with the crowd, we began feeling an extraordinary sense of being present, of purpose fulfillment, and ultimate accomplishment.  Nietzsche asserts that illusion is soothing!  In this case, we found a reality that dismisses people as tools and/or trash; consequently creating unbelievable hardship to the many.  This was and is a small sample of what is happening all around us.

These GREAT PEOPLE are choosing to sleep in the sidewalk with freezing snow falling down for they are refusing to believe and fall for THE BIG LIE. The greed of the inhumane 1% has affected 99% of the living-breathing capable, educated, hard working, individuals and families, for too long. These activist no longer are willing to buy into the insanity of sustaining their hearts with lies in hopes for a better future.

Corporations are not the answer neither the villains; people who feed them and build them to be gods are! There are, of course, very few principled within this 1% (Gates-Buffet-Turner).  However, most of them embrace and leverage a political-financial-fanatical system that is designed to perpetuate the 99% of us being sacrificial lambs who ignorantly or knowingly dedicate ourselves to support their so called deservingly ultra rich lifestyles and matching mega size egos (the morality of the coercers – Lakoff).  Indeed, there is a worldwide paramount example in which for some people of faith it is their duty to sustain a self appointed divine representative from heaven who does nothing, produces nothing, and saves no one, but himself and world elites…The one percent’s time of pedestal worshiped living is being repudiated by believers of the common good of all, in short, by movements like Occupy.

REMEMBER, WE ARE ALL EQUAL! WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEDICATE OUR PERSONAL AND COMMUNAL RESOURCES TOWARD SAFE HOUSING, FOOD, WATER, AIR, QUALITY EDUCATION, JOB SECURITY, AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE AND MORE. PROGRESSIVES BELIEVE IN A WORLD IN WHICH WE LOOK OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER AND DERIVE HAPPINESS FROM IT.  THIS IS NO SACRIFICE!  OUR CONTRIBUTIONS ARE REWARDING, SUSTAINABLE, PROTECTIVE, FILLED WITH CONVICTION (progressive-vital truths).

We hope you find great inspiration in your heart to participate in any way possible.  Stay informed…

Warm food for dinner, hats, gloves, and coffee are very much welcomed!

Love to you all!

P.S.  We went back the night of the big storm with lifesaving hot coffee, donuts, a tarp, and sleeping bags.  Thankfully, the entire group survived the storm.  The police officers did not allow the people to sleep in the park nor to erect tents! Even as people faced negative life-threatening freezing weather, the officers and our local government made the choice to fail to serve and protect them as was their sworn duty.
